ORIGINAL INTENTS, EASEL PAINTINGS, 1971 to late 90s

19 paintings, 2 objects, dimensions and materials variable

Each of the works in the Original Intents series is a direct reference to the Western art canon. The works, sometimes appearing unfinished, use materials to excavate, as Henry writes, the “lapses, distances, between and among what could be determined as the maker’s original intents, a constant within them, by reducing the informatives to their knowable beginnings of art supplies’ applications.” Here, Henry points to the reliable consistency and constancy in materials, highlighting that additional variables are, as he notes, “conceits intersecting, interchanging and imposing upon this constant.”
